The Creek Shorts

A branch of the creek off the main swimming hole

Growing up, my dad had a specific pair of shorts he would wear when he took us down to the creek. We called them his β€œcreek shorts.”

They were denim cutoffs. The background was white. The print? Red and blue stars. Bright red and blue stars.

I thought my Daddy was cool AND patriotic. I never thought about what those shorts looked like as pants…

Until I was looking through some old pictures at my Mom and Grandma’s house. I can’t unsee it.

My dad’s creek shorts started life out as bell bottoms, y’all.

My overall wearing dad wore bell bottoms back in the day. He really was cool. I was laughing.

I said, β€œ Oh my gosh, those are Daddy’s creek shorts. But bigger!”

Mom says,” Your dad STILL has those pants?!”

β€œ He did until a few years ago. I think Mae finally threw them out.”

I know remembering a pair of shorts might not be super interesting. To me, going to the creek with Dad is a great memory. Creek shorts and all.

Finding out Dad used to wear bell bottoms instead of overalls? Priceless πŸ˜‚
