The Brick Patio

I’m not sure about all the details but my stepdad came up with a load of used bricks for my mom to use.

The catch was that we had to go get them.We went to pick up the bricks.

They were still a part of an old fireplace. I wasn’t all that impressed with that but my mom had her heart set on how to use them already.

It came time to chip all the mortar off so we could lay them flat. My stepdad disappeared. Mom did the majority of the work and I helped some.

I didn’t realize that to lay the patio the lemon tree outside my window was going to be cut down. Or I wouldn’t have volunteered to help.

The tree never had lemons, or even bloomed that I can remember. But every year a little bird raised babies in it.

I don’t remember how long it took us, but we got the mortar off we needed to and spent a good while laying those bricks.

We spaced them just so much apart that we could root some ground cover between them. It was a nice patio. I think my mom put a bench on it.

I still think about the little bird in that lemon tree from time to time.

Until next time, take care of the people you love and don’t forget to make a few memories worth telling.
