One of the stories I have to tell is about my favorite rooster. He was old when he was given to me. He had to be because his spurs were about 2 ½ – 3 inches long. I called him Silvey.

Silvey got to retire and free range. He decided to live under the carport. That wasn’t very convenient for me but I figured I’d clean up the messes and let him be.
He would follow me all over the place. I’d talk to him and he’d look at me like I was crazy. I can’t imagine why.
Then, he got to trying to show me dominance. As long as he didn’t actually hurt me, I just yelled at him and he would stop running at me.
I was afraid he would trip my grandbaby’s momma while she was pregnant. I couldn’t have them getting hurt, so I butchered him.
I saved one jar of his meat to have at the baby shower in a rice dish. Since he gave his life to keep my grandbaby safe, I figured I should honor him with a spot at the baby shower.
One of my son’s coworkers asked if that was really my favorite rooster. I said yes but my grandbaby and her momma are more favored. He ate the chicken and rice and told me to invite him back any time.
Until next time, take care of the people you love and don’t forget to make a few memories worth telling.
