What was Jesus Like?

We’ve all heard that Jesus was 100% man AND 100% God.

That’s all well and good. I mean, I’m glad He is (was?)

But, sometimes I think about things like what was it like for Jesus to be a guy back in those days?

We all like to think about his public life when he was getting crowds of people coming to listen and how he had a fan base that followed him around.

But, what was it like in between the speeches and parables and healings?

He was probably dirty while on the road. Dirty feet. Dusty face. Hair blown all over the place. Kinda unkempt looking.

But, that would’ve been normal for anyone who travelled on foot for any distance back then. They had plants that lathered for baths. Oils and resins for smelliness.

But did Jesus have access to those things?

Maybe him foraging for those things or buying them just wasn’t written down. Maybe he chose to use the offerings given to feed the crowds instead of on personal luxuries.

I dunno. But it’s something I think about.

When Jesus was a baby, or a young child, did he cry for attention? Wanting affection from your parents isn’t a sin.

Or did he cry if he skinned his knee? He was given frankincense and myrrh when he was young. I can only imagine that would’ve been for scrapes and diaper rashes.

But he was probably a toddler when he got those, so maybe he was potty trained already.

Was Jesus always a peacemaker, or did he sometimes just let the other men in the group banter and bicker about things that really didn’t matter in a heavenly kinda way?

You know, the “I think sea bass is better than lamb,”

“No, lamb is so much more versatile” kinda conversations.

Or, maybe he joined in, “ I’ll take a nice oxen stew any day over either one of those.”

Honestly, none of these things really matter when considering the big picture.

I just think seeing that Jesus actually encountered some of the things we do helps us to have a complete picture of his life.

When I can’t drift off to sleep because of the running to-do list in my head, it helps when I think about things like this.

I also wonder about what happened to the prophets and people after their biblical accounts end….

Until next time, take care of the people you love and don’t forget to make a few memories worth telling.
