My mom was at a restaurant and they had really good green beans. She asked how they were cooked and the waitress said the secret ingredient was chicken broth.

I’ve been cooking them with broth any time I have extra broth canned up.
I’ve come up with this recipe through the years. The newest version has a squeeze of lemon juice. It’s not necessary but it sure gives it a brighter flavor to me.
I’ve used fresh, frozen and canned beans. Don’t cook the canned beans for a long time or they will be really soft.
Serves 4
You’ll Need
1 lb green beans
1-2 slices of bacon, chopped
½ onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1qt chicken broth
1 ½ tsp salt
½ tsp ground black pepper
1 TBS butter
2 tsp lemon juice, optional
Step 1: Cook bacon and onion until the onion is starting to get transparent. Add garlic and cook for a minute or two.
Step 2: Add the rest of the ingredients, except lemon juice, and bring to a simmer. Cook about 20 minutes for slightly crunchy beans or longer if you like your beans softer.
Step 3: Squeeze the lemon into the pot after the heat is turned off.
Until next time, take care of the people you love and don’t forget to make a few memories worth telling.
